Hey there, my fellow coffee enthusiast! I’m the founder of GoodSwitch, just an unassuming coffee enthusiast who loves a great pour-over and has a distaste flimsy gear. If you’ve been geeking out over the Hario Switch like I have, you might’ve noticed the same issue that bugged me: that plastic lever sitting right in the brew path, often encountering near-boiling water. It never felt durable or robust—prone to warping, discoloring, or just looking cheap over time. That’s where my journey with GoodSwitch began, and I’m excited to share how a simple idea turned into something the coffee community’s buzzing about.
The Spark: Fixing the Hario Switch
Like many of you, I’m obsessed with the Hario Switch’s hybrid immersion and pour-over magic. It’s a brilliant brewer, but that plastic lever? Not so much. Hot water, coffee oils, and constant use take their toll, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that plastic in the brew path wasn’t cutting it for a tool meant to deliver pristine coffee. So, I set out to fix it. My idea was simple: replace that pesky plastic lever with a durable, food-safe metal lever that could handle the heat and look good doing it. I called it the GoodSwitch lever, a nod to my love for coffee and quality craftsmanship.
When I shared the concept on Reddit’s r/pourover about a year ago, the response blew me away. So many of you shared my frustration with the plastic lever and cheered on the idea of a metal upgrade. Your enthusiasm kept me going, and I spent countless hours testing designs to make sure this lever wasn’t just a fix—it was a game-changer.
From Idea to Reality
After a year of tinkering, prototyping, and sipping way too many pour-overs (tough job, right?), I launched the first batch of preorders GoodSwitch levers in 2024. Made from 316 stainless steel, these levers were built to last—no warping, no discoloration, just a smooth, reliable switch experience every time. The coffee community jumped on board, and the first batch sold out so fast I had to more than double my initial lot quantity! Orders were fulfilled in March and made their way into the world.
By June 2025, I was ready to take it up a notch. The second generation of GoodSwitch levers shipped, and let me tell you, I’m stoked about how nice they turned out. Alongside the trusty 316 stainless steel version, I introduced an ultra-premium DLC (diamond-like carbon) finish. It’s sleek, resists coffee oils like a dream, and adds a touch of luxury to your brew setup. The second batch sold out just as quickly, proving that coffee lovers like us value gear that’s as serious about quality as we are. Already have the 3rd wave in the works...
Why GoodSwitch?
GoodSwitch isn’t about flashy branding or corporate vibes—it’s about making tools that elevate your coffee game. As a fellow enthusiast, I know the joy of nailing that perfect pour-over, and I want every part of the process to feel right. The GoodSwitch lever is my way of solving a problem we’ve all faced, with a focus on premium materials, durability, and a design that feels at home in your brew station. I really love seeing GoodSwitch enthusiasts' passion on forums, your notes on how the lever elevates your brews, and that crisp "tink" of the steel lever hitting the ball, a display of unmistakable quality.
This journey has been a blast because of you—the coffee community. I’m just a guy who loves coffee, and seeing my idea resonate with so many of you means the world.
