How to Install, Clean, and Maintain Your GoodSwitch Lever
Installing Your GoodSwitch Lever
Installation takes under a minute!
Video guide
What You’ll Need:
- Your GoodSwitch lever
- Hario Switch brewer base
Steps:
- Remove the Plastic Lever: Place your Hario Switch on a stable surface. Gently pull the plastic lever straight up from the silicone base. It should pop out with light pressure. You can perform this step with or without the cone installed.
- Inspect the Silicone Base: Ensure the silicone gasket is clean and undamaged. It stays in place and pairs perfectly with the GoodSwitch lever.
- Insert the GoodSwitch Lever: Invert and align the lever’s beak with the hole in the silicone base. Insert and twist firmly until it seats fully, matching the plastic lever’s original position. You’ll feel a grasp the gasket as it "locks in."
- Test the Fit: Toggle the lever to confirm smooth operation. You’ll hear that premium “tink” when the steel hits the ball. If it feels off, ensure it’s fully seated.
Pro Tip: The lever’s curves and bevels optimize coffee flow and prevent stagnation, so insert it straight for best performance.
Cleaning Your GoodSwitch Lever
The 316 stainless steel (and DLC coating) resists corrosion and coffee oil buildup, making cleaning simple and ensuring food-safe brewing.
Daily Cleaning:
- After Each Brew: Push the lever into the lever open position and rinse under warm water to remove coffee residue. Optionally, remove the lever using the above instructions and use a soft cloth or sponge with mild dish soap to wipe the beak and neck of the lever.
- Clean the Silicone Base: Rinse the silicone gasket under warm water.
- Dry Thoroughly: Pat the lever and silicone base dry with a clean cloth to avoid water spots.
Weekly Deep Cleaning:
- Soak the Lever: Soak the lever in hot water with a bit of dishwashing soap for 5-10 minutes to remove stubborn oils. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
- Polish (Optional): For stainless steel levers, use a microfiber cloth. Do not use abrasive materials such as steel wool. For DLC-coated levers, a dry microfiber cloth keeps the finish pristine.
- Inspect the Silicone: Check the silicone base for wear. My testing showed no issues with the metal lever or the gasket.
Note: Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive scrubbers to protect the lever and silicone. Use food-safe cleaning methods.
Maintaining Your GoodSwitch Lever
The GoodSwitch lever is built to last, but these tips keep it performing like new:
Regular Maintenance:
- Check Fit Monthly: Ensure the lever stays snug in the silicone base. The precision design minimizes wear, but please exercise caution while removing and reseating the lever.
- Store Properly: No need to remove the lever when not in use! To reduce stress on the silicone gasket, you can store in the gasket so the dripper is immediately ready to use when the urge to brew compels you!
- Inspect for Wear: Check the silicone base every few months if you brew daily. The 316 stainless steel is food-safe and corrosion-resistant, so the lever should stay pristine with proper care for generations.
